Subject	something plastic under the engine got ripped up...

Message	was driving and noticed a whooshing/dragging sound, got out and looked and it appeared a piece of plastic almost like a heat shield (but likely not) was ripped up and dragging like I snagged it on something. it is a flat piece of plastic at the very front of the car bolted to the fascia about 3 feet wide and 1.5 feet long in between the ICs. how soon do I need to fix this? I can just cut the dragging piece off for now but what's the deal? what did I break and how serious? thanks!
